Who are you?

Well let me introduce myself, I am the Rosie of 'Rosie's Vintage Lampshades'. My very good friend Zia who taught me to sew and bake and enjoy Shakespeare, also taught me how to make lampshades! So with a little... ok, a LOT of help from my friends (thanks guys!) Rosie's Vintage Lampshades was born.

Now me and my husband Jim have lots of fun making lampshades together at our little home in Saffron Walden.

How can I purchase a shade?

Very easily! Go straight to my Lampshade page and chose the one you like the best... then follow the instructions on screen to customize your shade so it is perfect just for you!
As for payment, I only accept PayPal at the moment. It is very simple to use. If you have an account with them you will be asked to log in and pay that way. If not, don't worry, you can still pay with debit/credit card as a guest user. Just follow the instructions on screen and it will be easy as pie!
If you have any problems or questions please feel free to drop me an email on my contact page.

Can you make me the perfect lampshade?

Well I'm going to go out on a limb here and say... probably yes!
I make every single shade in my shop to order so if you want something specific, just ask!
For example, if you want extra height added to your shade, or you would prefer a diameter other than the ones listed on my site, or even you would prefer a different shape lampshade, just drop me and email via my contact page and I will see what I can do to make it so!

As for fittings, I supply all my shades with a small adaptor so they will attach to both the smaller size UK fittings (1.1"/25mm) and the larger European fittings(1.7"/45mm) so my shades should fit most lamps or pendants around.

If you're still not sure, just drop me an email and we can double check before you buy.

Can I return my shade?

If, SHOCK HORROR, something goes wrong with your lovely new lampshade, of course I want to make it right for you as soon as possible.

If I've made a mistake then of course I will fix it free of charge, just drop me an email letting me know what the problem is.

Sometimes shades do get damaged or lost in transit. If this happens, you don't need to contact the courier, I will do all of that. Just let me know the details and then I can start making you a new lampshade.

If you change your mind when the shade arrives, that's ok. You can still return the shade. Just let me know before you put it back in the post so I can anticipate its arrival. As soon as it is returned to me in salable condition I will arrange your refund or start making you a new lampshade to exchange, whatever you would prefer.

When will my shade arrive?

This really depend on the time of year. If it is a busy time, it can take up to two or three weeks as I make each shade to order and often get a backlog at busy times.

Normally however, it should take just a week or so to make and dispatch. I will give you a better estimate when I accept your order.

If you need a shade for a particular date, just let me know when you order it and I will do my very best to make sure it arrives in time.

How much is delivery?

For mainland UK I charge £6.99 for delivery on all my shades (£3 for every additional shade you buy). If you are lucky enough to live somewhere more exotic I can still send it to you, it will just cost a little more. Let me know where you live and I can give you a postage quote.

If you want your lampshade real quick, I may be able to accommodate you. Just drop me a message and I will see what I can do.

What on earth is a diffuser?

Good question, a diffuser is basically a flat disk that fits in the bottom of a ceiling fit shade. They are used to hide the lightbulb and also dim the light that escapes from the shade. It is perfect if you want to create a cosy bedroom feel, ideal for a nursery when you want to shade baby's little eyes from the glare!

You can buy them for any lampshade design from the order screen under the 'extras' section.

What size shade do I need?

Now this is a question only you can answer, as a lot of it is down to personal taste.
Here's a few pointers to help you make up your mind:

  • 8" Diameter - These shades are perfect for the kind of lamp you might use as a bedside lamp. They are also super cute as ceiling/pendant shades in a small room.
  • 12" Diameter - My best selling size! It works on pretty much all table lamps, and is a great as a ceiling/pendant size shade for all but the largest of rooms.
  • 16" Diameter - Getting into big territory now! This works really well as a feature shade on a large table lamp or in any size room as a ceiling/pendant shade. It is the smallest shade I would recommend for a standard lamp
  • 20" Diameter - The largest shade I make! This shade will really make a statement wherever you chose to put it. It works best as a standard lamp shade in a large room or as a ceiling/pendant shade. I automatically size up the depth to 11" to keep the proportions in order.
